Immersive Escape-Route Scenario with Locomotion Devices

چکیده
The simulation of damaged buildings is of great interest. Virtual-reality technologies allow us to experience such a situation. A main concern here is escaping from the building. To simulate this scenario, a model of the environment and an interface for locomotion are needed. Locomotion inside virtual buildings requires special input devices. This paper discusses several simulation methods for human locomotion in an escape-route scenario. We present some results for a new locomotion device for escaping from of a virtual house that is on fire.

The Effects of Finger-Walking in Place (FWIP) on Spatial Knowledge Acquisition in Virtual Environments
Spatial knowledge, necessary for efficient navigation, comprises route knowledge (memory of landmarks along a route) and survey knowledge (overall representation like a map). Virtual environments (VEs) have been suggested as a power tool for understanding some issues associated with human navigation, such as spatial knowledge acquisition. The Finger-Walking-in-Place (FWIP) interaction technique...
متن کاملDoes Brief Exposure to a Self-avatar Effect Common Human Behaviors in Immersive Virtual Environments?
A plausible assumption is that self-avatars increase the realism of immersive virtual environments (VEs), because self-avatars provide the user with a visual representation of his/her own body. Consequently having a self-avatar might lead to more realistic human behavior. To test this hypothesis we compared human behavior in VE with and without providing knowledge about a self-avatar with real ...
متن کاملSketch-based Route Planning with Mobile Devices in immersive Virtual Environments
We present a novel sketch-based route planning technique, that supports the collaborative work of a group of people navigating through a virtual environments using mobile devices. With our new approach, route planning tasks, like creating camera animation paths, can be generated very efficient, while working on large screens with complex data. Our interaction technique lets the user explore the...
متن کاملInteractions in a Human-Scale Immersive Environment: the CRAIVE- Lab
We describe interfaces and visualizations in the CRAIVE (Collaborative Research Augmented Immersive Virtual Environment) Lab, an interactive human scale immersive environment at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. We describe the physical infrastructure and software architecture of the CRAIVE-Lab, and present two immersive scenarios within it. The first is “person following”, which allows a perso...
متن کاملUsability Testing of Virtual Reality Aided Design: Framework for Prototype Development and a Test Scenario
We have built a framework for using 3D modelling applications in an immersive virtual environment. In this paper we compare our immersive user interface made for an existing application to its original 2D desktop counterpart. The immersive 3D user interface was built on top of a generic distributed rendering framework on a cave–like virtual reality system. A test scenario was designed for compa...
